Course Management
Course Management Systems (CMS) or Learning Management Systems (LMS) are software applications that allow for digital delivery of course materials, activities and assessments and provide for online collaboration and communication. These systems are powerful additions to any class. Moodle is a traditional CMS and a very powerful tool for the classroom. Edmodo is not technically a CMS, but does allow for digital delivery of content, educational networking and assignment handout/turn in.
ToolsMoodle:
Moodle stands for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment. This is powerful software with many functionalities. It is described as an e-learning platform. It allows for the digital delivery and storage of course materials. This could be anything from web resources and presentations to online activities and assessments. Moodle also helps to facilitate communication in that it allows for online forum discussion and one-to-one student-teacher communications. Edmodo: This software has much less functionality than "traditional" CMS, but it certainly makes up for it in ease of use and visual appeal. This has an excellent assignment feature. Edmodo is a social learning network designed specifically for schools. It is free and secure way to communicate digitally and share digital content. Online users need to have a code provided by the teacher to access the class, so posts are not open to the public. Teachers and students can post questions and the class can comment. In addition, service gives teachers the ability to post and receive assignments online. It also allows teachers to privately comment on and hand back student work. Be sure to read and follow the Terms of Service prior to using in class. |
